It was heartbreaking to see so many infants crying because their parents had them circumcised. It is generally assumed that the pain will go away and the child would eventually forget, this is an absolutely wrong assumption the memory of such an extremely painful experience does not go away that easily– it is only suppressed,
No one bothers or cares to ask the child if he wanted to have an intricate part of his body removed. This is done when the child has not even started speaking leave alone, there is really he can do anything to prevent something like this to happen. By all medical and ethical standards, it is the person who is fully aware of the implications of any kind operation, should be the one to decide if he would like it to be done or not.
When an intricate part body is sliced off – at such time it is surprising parents do not feel never realise the tremendous physical pain they inflicted and the possible psychologicall harm they have caused. The child may stop crying but the suffering and its memory is never lost because an entire body part has been taken away from him.. It is mistakenly believed that children forget, they do not.
Just because the infant was too weak, unable to speak this is nothing short of a crime. The child has no choice as to how is treated. He could just have easily have had his arms and legs amputated event then he would not be in a position to say or do anything about. It . There countless stories of circumcisions going horribly wrong the result being infant losing his genitals – he has no one to blame his parents for their loss. This barbaric ritual has to be put to a stop permanently. Can parents live with themselves after their child has lost his genitals?
The anger of being mistreated during infancy, takes the form of rage and violence at an older age. The suppressed rage wells up and can do more harm than good. It may very well be responsible for a variety of mental illnesses.
When an adult is crippled, he develops a compensatory attitude diverting attention away from his deformity like the loss of his limbs, by displaying a bizarre behaviour – it can range from extreme aggressiveness to isolating oneself from the rest of the world. Circumcision or male genital mutilation has wide range of psychological and psychiatric implications – an infant is likely to feel more intensely than an adult would. It is a violation of a basic human right – this has to be put to a stop. Primitive and barbaric rituals should come to an end.
