A website which provided information on a variety of things - its name is Wikipedia, known as the online encyclpaedia - has been blocked. Is there no end to this insanity? It goes without saying that the military regime is filled with absolute idiots. In what way will blocking this website in Pakistan affect the Pakistanis abroad. They will have access to it and will know what is in it. The blogs I publish I cannot see them. But the people living outside Pakistan can read them, because the stupid laws controlling the Internet in Pakistan do not apply beyond Pakistan's borders. People read all the 'salacious' and 'scandalous' news and comments about all the people who are msruling the country. Such stories the dams are being built because that the military regime wants to make lots of money from the contracts they handout, the kickbacks will go to all the ranking officers. Of course such stuff cannot be seen here but because my page is cannot be seen, but Pakistanis abroad can. Their opinions and views matter just as much.
The biggest mistake people in the espionage business is denying the free flow of information. Once all means accessing or transmitting information is stopped, other means are adopted which are many times more secretive and at times very hard to detect. People very well be lying in blogs, conveying absolute nonsense and pretending it is true. Those who are abroad will not be able to know accurately. But what is the harm in passing on absolute lies, when the government is terrifed of the truth.
[The protests which occurred because of blasphemous cartoons were not really a religious at all. When ZA Bhutto was prime minister, he noticed the price of dairy products were becoming increasingly expensive, so he took a bold step, he opened up import of dairy goods from Denmanrk. When all kinds dairy goods started flooding the market from Denmark, the price of local dairy products came crashing down. These were kept down for many years. Then the incident of blasphemous cartoons took place, this was ideal opportunity for dairy farmers to go on a rampage and now all dairy goods are rising daily - with a moronic military regime not realising it has been duped. There was once an offer from Australia to provide inexpensive meat, but politics prevented imports from there otherwise the price of meat would come tumbling down. ]
Anyway this government is not going to change its habits, because it simply cannot handle the truth. It is universally maligned and shows no sign of disappearing. Dictators never resign, the only time they go is when there is anothe coup, or they die or someone is successful enough to eliminate all echelon of the regime and a civilian government takes over.
