A recent reports from the National Committee for Maternal Health (NCMH) said that in Pakistan 30 women die every minute due to complications during child birth, while nine babies are born at the same time. If one were to accept this figure, then approximately 16 million women would have died after a period of one year, at the same time there would be about 5 million orphans. This staggering figure is the result of a simple calculation. Multiplying the figure provided by NCMH with the number of minutes there are in an hour, then multiplying that amount with the number of hours in a day; later multiplying that with the number of days there are in a year
According to the official census there are 150 million people in our country, If 16 million women are going to die every year and 5 million children are born(most of whom would most likely be orphans). This means that there would be 10 per cent less women and only 3 per cent more children. If this trend were to continue for 10 years; there would be 160 million women would have died, while there will be 50 million children ranging from the age 10 and below.
These findings would mean they our country’s population would dwindle down to absolutely nothing, particularly that of women. However according to Mary Stopes Society Pakistan is the fifth most populated country in the world and the government is greatly concerned that the country’s population is rising by 3. 2 per cent annually; efforts are being made to bring down population. This is very confusing – because one report suggests population is seriously declining while the other states that it is rising unacceptably, which is to be believed?.
Either we have more people in the country than what official census claims or the findings of the NCMH are completely wrong or at worse fabricated. Mark Twain said "There are three kinds of lies – lies, damn lies and statistics". What the NCMH has given are statistics. Similar organisations have their own set of statistics. Children also die. Some organisation give details about how of many of them die as a result suffering from specific diseases others are about adults dying or suffering or dying due to a a number of diseases., the causes range a from malnutrition and a variety to congenital diseases, expert opinion is pointing to the fact that population is actually declining.
On the one hand it is claimed that Pakistan is suffering from over-population on the other it is said so many people are dying at an incredible rate because of the absence proper medical attention. Either way Pakistan is criticised. It is accused of being over-populated. At the same time it is said that an unacceptable number people are dying because of the absence of proper medical facilities. Either way we are condemned. If we take proper care of people then our country becomes overpopulated, if we do not our population may eventually disappear. .
It is unclear what the truth is– as no one can never know, because each organisation comes up with its own data, they hire professionals who are specialised in specific fields and it is only natural that should come up with results in one form or another. In order to start specific projects – these organisation cannot survive unless it provides figures. The money is spent not only the project but also in the organisation which provides jobs to many people. What one can conclude from this is that every attempt we make to resolve certain issues we end up create problems elsewhere. Certain things are best left alone. It may sound inhuman, but that is the way nature works.
My generation and the one which followed were all vaccinated against small pox, recently every one is being vaccinated against polio. Immunity against a disease is not something inherited, the immunity acquired by one generation does not naturally pass down to the next. So after the small pox vaccination programme ended because the disease has apparently been wiped out just as polio will be. But surviving samples of these deadly, crippling and deforming diseases have been retained ostensibly for biological warfare, because all the recent and the generations to come will have no immunity against them because they were never vaccinated.
In the times when medical science had not progressed to the level to which it has now, many people who were unfit would certainly die.. The result was that each following generation was healthier and had better chances of survival. Many of such people managed to live to be over 100 years. People with congenital diseases died much earlier. The ancestors of all the people who are alive today their ancestors did not have the benefit modern medical science, they survived epidemics, natural disasters, wars and traumatically violent crimes. They lived because they were fittest in their entire generation, while all the others disappeared.
But mankind has strangely been trying to alter this – the weak and disease prone people are surviving – because of the benefits of modern medicine. Yet no amount of exercising and so called ‘health foods’ can change their feeble condition. They will constantly need medical attention in order to keep them alive. One of the most unscrupulous benefits for the medical community – which has yet to develop permanent cures for the chronically ill. They devise new types of treatment – they are just slightly better than earlier versions.
An enigmatic situation has been war. Humanity ensured that every ‘able-bodied’ man would fight in the battlefields. Many of the strong and healthy people were killed on the battlefields others captured and enslaved. The feeble and the sick remained at home unharmed, they also were useless as slaves because of the variety of deformities they suffered from. These days wars are not fought on the basis of sheer physical strength – they are fought using hi-tech weapons. But in order to develop these weapons requires brain not brawn. So our most intelligent and knowledgeable people are being used to help design such deadly weapons.
First mankind tried to wipe out most of its physically fit people – now it is out to eliminate those people who are intellectually superior, because their entire life would devoted to making new weapons or upgrading the ones which already exist. All this shows being mankind’s road to survival has been left to the physically unfit and the intellectually inferior This benefits the medical community which would rather a multitude of patients than strong and healthy people.
Things have come to such a pass that people with specific genetic disorders for instance thalassaemia minor marry each other and end up having children with a worse form of the same disease – which is a cause of greater grief and misery. Similar is the case with people with diabetes and hypertension.
