The state of education in Pakistan

It is common knowledge that education is given the lowest priority by the state, as it receives the least amount of funds from the annual budget. For this reason the conditions of government schools and colleges are in an extremely poor condition.

Because of this the private schools business is thriving and - the methods by which they operate is entirely fraudulent. These private school charge up or more than Rs 35,000 as admission fees and an additional Rs 12,000 (4,000 per month) as term tuition fees, these have to be paid together So the total amount for the admission of only one child is Rs 47,000 – which is well beyond the means of many parents. Later every subsequent three months the Rs 12,000 is charged as term tuition fees.

Although all the money these schools receive, they really have no intentions to provide anything tangible in return. Children are expect to do well on their own., without expecting any help from their teachers. If some child does not do well, the school - they firmly place the blame on the child and the parents, when the fault really is that of the school.

No one with any common sense pays for something without receiving anything in return. So parents are the ones paying for their child’s education they have the every right to expect the school to give 100% attention to their child at all times, regardless of anything, the school must make all the effort to rectify mistakes guide the child along in the learning a subject. However the patent reply of every school is that they have too many children and cannot give absolute attention to any particular child. The reason for this is simply that have up to 40 children or a minimum of 30 per class, so the question of individual attention is really out of the question. Some schools are being run like factories The children which came in the morning after leaving are replaced by children who arrive in the afternoon.

Which begs the question why should schools be allowed to admit so many children that it becomes impossible to give individual attention to each student.

The parents have every right to say that other children in the school are not their concern, only their child is since they are only paying for their own child and none other and they want their child to do well and the school has to make sure that happens.

Most schools think they are some upper class outfits, in which rights of admission are reserved. They will make the process of admission extremely complicated. They put in such rubbish such as standards and other things; they just want to make admission difficult but not impossible. Because they are just as greedy every other private school.

Those who have invested in setting up these schools are obviously only interested in pure for financial gain. In order to ensure they stay rich, they violates all the existing labour laws, they hire unqualified people who are seeking any kind of job, even if it is that of a teacher Since these people do not have the necessary qualifications first thing about the subjects they have been assigned, for this they are incapable of teaching the students. The reason unqualified people are kept as teachers is because they will not be paid proper salaries. The people who are made teachers are doing so because they cannot find jobs elsewhere and will accept anything which is paid to them and will work long hours without adequate compensation.

These people do not know anything about any subject all that they make the children do is class-work, T homework and tell the children to prepare for mindless tests The questions in the tests are easy to make, because the children are required to memorise several chapters without understanding a single word which is written in them, all that the children do is rewrite whatever they have memorised. If a student ever asks a teacher a question, it lands the student in trouble - he is accused of causing disturbance in class and is punished. So children refuse question anything and accept everything without understanding. The school owners stand to gain, because they underpaid help from they can take out maximum amount of work, many of these people are told to teach several subjects – they do so in order to preserve their jobs, though they know nothing about them.

In such circumstances it is only natural that many children are not going to do well at all. Strangely enough parents tend accept all the criticism against their children In order to improve their child’s ‘performance’ this has given rise to the tuition and coaching centre industry. However some people do not send their children them but have tutors coming at home.. All this an additional financial burden on the parents. Strangely enough at no time do the parents feel they are being defrauded by the schools. Only when parents begin to realise that private schools are a monstrous scam, they should all get together and actually sue them. Although private schools are being run as full fledged businesses but they present themselves before the government as social service organisations, nothing could be further from the truth.
